Tips for Effective and Eye-Catching Business Cards

Posted on: 29 October 2015

Even in this day and age of electronic communication, it's good to have actual physical business cards made up for yourself; you can hand these out to people you meet casually or they may be used by a client or customer if their phone or computer listings fail them. A business card should work as something more than just a piece of paper with information on it, however. Your business card can actually be a great selling tool, if you design it properly and choose a high-quality printing option. Note a few tips for doing this.

1. Include a photo or graphic of some sort

People tend to feel more comfortable calling someone for professional services if they know what that person looks like, as appearances can make an impression. If you have a photo of yourself in a nice suit, this can make you look very professional to clients. If you're a personal trainer, a photo of you at the gym can also make a good impression.

You can also consider a graphic of a product you sell. If you're an author, use the cover of your latest book. If you sell clothes, include a picture of an outfit that is a top seller. These types of graphics can catch the eyes of potential customers and make them want to buy your product, even allowing them to remember it more easily.

2. Cover all the bases

Your business card should include all the information your customers will need to contact you or to do business with you. Don't assume you can just include a phone number or web address and then give clients whatever else they need when they call, or that they'll go hunting for more info on your website. Include all phone numbers where they can reach you, a fax number if you have it, email address, website, and a physical address of your office. If you sell a product such as a book, you might also note its price, if it's available on retail sites like Amazon, and so on.

3. Don't skimp on quality

With so many templates and programs that you can purchase to design your own business cards and perforated sheets of cards you can run through your own printer, you may be tempted to skip professional printing and handle your own business card printing in the office. This can be a mistake, as your potential customers and clients may judge the success of your business on the quality of your business cards.
